“Health Care Among the Immigrant Community and its Impact During the COVID-19 Pandemic”

Biography

Cloris Bustamante has spent her life using her personal and career experiences to help herself, her patients, and community members overcome the challenges of accessing health-related education and resources that support Health Prevention and management of a disease. 

She knows that there is no single approach and resource that works for everyone, so she continues to educate herself on forming collaborations, supporting partnerships, and sharing resources and initiatives that work for everyone, group, and community. She has experience in Home Care, ambulatory, long-term, inpatient, and currently on Community Outreach efforts that target multilingual and diverse communities with unique risks, health issues, socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental risk factors.

She received her education at the University of Fairleigh Dickinson with a Master’s in Business Administration with a Health Systems Management-Executive Track concentration. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate Degree in Public Health (Community Public Health-longest track). She also held a Bachelor’s in Nursing from Felician College and obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing and English as a Second Language at Passaic County Community College (PCCC). She is a first-generation immigrant, an avid learner, researcher, and is currently planning and developing her Research Project- Obesity Among Hispanic Children.

Cloris is currently working at St. Joseph’s Health as the Manager of Clinical-Community Outreach after working eight years as a Clinical Education Specialist of Clinical and non-Clinical staff at the Center for Education. Before that, Cloris worked in a Long-Term facility as an Assistant Director/Practice Educator for three years. A nurse Coordinator/Case Management of the OB/GYN for ten years at St. Mary’s in Passaic, NJ. She worked as an evening Nursing Instructor at Eastwick College for ten years, Bilingual LPN Program. Two years as a field Home Health Nurse and One year at Paterson Community Health as a nurse. She lived 20 years in Paterson on Main St. Her daughter was born at St. Josephs’ and her son at Barnert Hospital. Currently, she lives with her husband, a retired Home Health Aide. Cloris daughter is a Funeral Director, a working-poor mother of a 20-month-old son, who bought a house and a new car. Her son, a father of a seven-year-old girl, studied Human Medicine abroad (8 years), and he is getting ready to take the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE).
