Melanie Hazim joined the Division of Consumer Affairs in January of 2016. As the Outreach Director for the Division, Melanie is responsible for implementing the Division’s missions and goals which aim to protect New Jersey’s residents from becoming victims of consumer fraud. She speaks to thousands of people across the state yearly as the main speaker for outreach events, educating all types of groups including seniors, non-English speaking peoples, job seekers, and other populations that can find themselves vulnerable to scam artists. She also directs the New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl and works with her team to educate students across the state about consumer issues and scams they may face in their future in a fun, game show setting. Most recently, Melanie participated a six week course with FBI’s Newark Citizen Academy which invites local community notables to get a peek “behind the curtain” of the US’s principle law enforcement agency on domestic intelligence and security.
