Biography

Josephine E. Hernández earned her BA degree in English from Inter-American University in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and her MA degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Ms. Hernández enjoyed a successful forty-five-year career in higher education. She recently retired from Passaic County Community College, where she was a vice president.

In 2004, she was appointed by Gov. McGreevey to the New Jersey State Board of Education and served as its President for two years. She has also held positions of leadership at organizations related to her profession, and was also the Vice President for Fund Development for the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Eastern Union County. She is also a recent past member of the Board of

Directors of the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey and served as its Chair for three years.  Ms. Hernandez was a delegate to the 2011 and 2014 Girl Scouts of The USA, National Council Sessions. It should also be noted that she has been the first Latina to serve in these positions of leadership.

Ms. Hernández has served on various boards, including the New Jersey State Board of Education, the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey, and in various organizations related to her profession. She was the first Latina to achieve positions of executive leadership in all of these organizations. Currently shares his experience as an educator through his inspirational books and motivational lectures. Since 2017, she is a member of the IACO Board of Directors.
